Wet Afternoon - rengay

Robert Naczas
Jacek Margolak

    neighbour`s drill
    I try to forget
    my dental appointment

    Graduation Day—
    my son's gap-toothed smile

    watching
    Animal Planet—
    the hyenas laugh

    moving house again
I look for a cable TV
    socket

    power cut—
    suddenly nothing to do

    lazy afternoon
    a dragonfly still
    on the same reed

Winter Afternoon - rengay

            math class
            I count each snowflake
            on the window*

            the whiteness of snow—
            my car needs a wash

            between my pickup
            and the school door
            ice slide

            end of shift—
            the postman carries
            a pair of skates

            an empty rink—
the splayed paws of an old dog

            deserted square—
            the scent of mulled wine
            fills the emptiness

Closing time - rengay

quiet afternoon—
a barber dozes off
in the armchair

rising moon—
the sheen of her long hair

watching me
with this Mona Lisa smile—
a mannequin

abandoned shop
somebody's footprints
on the dusty floor

closing time—
all the lights go out

cloudy night
I bring her a firefly
in my hands

rainy day -
on the office steps,
an unemployed sparrow
